Each year, on World Read Aloud Day, people around the globe read together and share stories to advocate for literacy as human right that belongs to all people.<\/p>\n
On February 1, Seeds East celebrated WRAD by reading a selection of poems and a short speech. After morning class, students, tutors, and staff gathered to listen to poetry read aloud.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents who read did a fantastic job,\u201d said Site Coordinator Kara Krawiec. \u201cThey brought the words to life and spread messages of hope and perseverance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s something magical about being read to,\u201d one tutor commented. \u201cNo matter what your age.\u201d<\/p>\n
Krawiec ended the event by reading George Saunders\u2019 2013 Syracuse Commencement Speech entitled, Congratulations, By the Way<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cSeeds has challenged students, tutors, and staff to read a minimum of 30 minutes a day<\/a><\/strong>,\u201d she explained. \u201cReading is a powerful activity and we hope that by participating in events such as WRAD, everyone will learn to love reading<\/strong><\/a> and make it a habit.\u201d<\/p>\n # # #<\/p>\n KLK<\/p>\n
