April Is National Poetry Month

Some people are born poets. You know the type – every phrase has rhythm, from a love note to a grocery list. They bleed style and similes, metaphors with meter, and punctuate with dramatic pauses.
Do our staff members fit into that category? See for yourself. They were invited to submit a haiku, a limerick, or a spine poem to celebrate National Poetry Month. At first, everyone was silent.
My coworkers just wouldn’t comply,
Though I begged them and gave them a try.
Their pages stayed bare,
As they shrugged, “I don’t care,”
Now I’m left with a poetic sigh!
Still nothing.
Lone poet I stand,
coworkers have fled the task—
ghosts of rhymes linger.
But finally, submissions came in.

Feline Captors
Hector swipes a bite,
Annie naps without a care—
Flour dust takes flight

Searching for Words
Scan brain left and right
Don’t think I can write a poem
Finding all wrong words
.~Anne

Unassuming Artist
There was a guy who played guitar
But certainly was no rock star
He kept finger picking,
If at work he’d be clicking
the buttons shown on the taskbar
~ Alex

Ink Blots
Pages turn like wind,
Worlds unfold in silent streams,
Lost in thought and ink.
~ Kara

The Readers
A girl with a book in her hand,
found stories both epic and grand.
With each word she read,
new thoughts filled her head,
and her mind stretched across every land!
There once was a fellow named Ray,
who read every book in his way.
With each turn of the page,
he grew wise for his age,
and his words always lit up the day!
~ Todd

Jelly Bean Season
Colorful and sweet,
tiny bursts of joy and fun,
gone in just one bite.
