[NEWS] Graduate Honored at National ProLiteracy Conference

Every two years, ProLiteracy recognizes those who have made outstanding achievements in the adult literacy and education landscape.

The 2024 award recipients at a special luncheon during a Conference on Adult Education, held October 6–9 in Baltimore. After presenting each award, the honorees sat together on a panel to answer questions about their accomplishments.

Among the award recipients and panelists was Seeds grad HANNAH SANKAN (Class of 2024). She was nominated by Director of Student Success at Seeds – Kara Krawiec.

Frank C. Laubach Award for Adult Learner Excellence

Hannah Sankan was awarded the Frank C. Laubach Award for Learner Excellence for her achievements earning her high school equivalency diploma. Sankan, 55, left school in the ninth grade. After rough beginnings that carried into adulthood, Sankan overcame homelessness, addiction, and mental health struggles to change the path she was on by enrolling at Seeds. Since passing the GED test, Sankan has earned her state-tested nursing aide certification and is enrolled in the Moody Bible Institute to earn a degree in human services.

Of the experience, Sankan had this to say:

” My favorite part about attending the ProLiteracy Conference was when I was sitting at a table during a luncheon next to my instructor Kara and my name was called to approach the stage and receive the national 2024 Adult Learner ProLiteracy Award; that is the day and moment I will never forget and will forever be grateful for Seeds of Literacy, Kara Krawiec, and all of my tutors and the host of volunteers and employees that works together to help us to obtain our GED.”

Seeds of Literacy is the only program in Ohio that is accredited by ProLiteracy.
