Pure Imagination & Adult Literacy

Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There’s nothing to it

– “Pure Imagination” by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley

Each year, Seeds of Literacy hosts Sowing Seeds of Hope, our brunch and auction marquee fundraiser. This year’s Sowing Seeds of Hope, which will be September 24th at Windows on the River in Cleveland, is themed “Pure Imagination!”

So what does “Pure Imagination” actually mean, and what does it have to do with providing free GED® prep and one-to-one tutoring to adults?

Well, what’s great about this year’s theme is that it illustrates in layers the value of Seeds of Literacy’s mission.

What comes to mind first is the familiar connection between literacy and imagination: literacy means being able to read well and comprehend material, which means you can read books and live all kinds of lives, in all kinds of lands and times, through the power of your imagination meeting the written word.

But there’s another meaning to “Pure Imagination” that connects even more deeply to our mission of empowering adults through literacy.

In our classrooms, Seeds of Literacy empowers adults not just with literacy and numeracy skills, but with confidence, independence, and self-assurance. Imagine the possibilities of a world opened up to you when you believe in yourself, your knowledge, and your ability to learn. Life might feel — finally — in your control. Your world is yours. How far do you want to go?

It’s a question of pure imagination.

Want to change the world? There’s nothing to it: just join us at Sowing Seeds of Hope and your support will mean there’s no limit on the possibilities for the dedicated adults at Seeds of Literacy.
