Why Attend?
“By hosting these informational sessions, we’re hoping to provide an engaging, no-pressure opportunity for people to learn more about Seeds and ask questions about GED tutoring,” said Bonnie Entler, president and CEO of Seeds of Literacy. “Of course, we’d love if they ultimately sign up for one of our comprehensive tutor trainings, but if it’s not the right volunteering fit for them, they’ll know right away.”
Christine Lee, a volunteer coordinator, emphasized the critical need for adult literacy support in Northeast Ohio. “These sessions help open people’s eyes to the challenges our students face,” she said.
The Seeds Program:
Seeds’ program is built on one-to-one individualized education. Each adult learner works with a tutor at their own pace, level, and schedule. However, the demand for tutors has grown significantly, with student enrollment rising steadily since the pandemic, particularly each January as New Year’s resolutions drive interest in education.
“Our tutor-base is growing, but is simply outpaced by student need,” Entler said. “We’re hoping that by holding these short sessions, complete with continental breakfasts, people will be inspired to fulfill their own resolutions to volunteer with us.”
No Pressure, Just Awareness:
Entler stressed that the sessions are designed to be informative without pressure to commit. “When people learn about the impact of adult illiteracy, it sparks conversations. Ultimately, raising awareness helps us, too,” she said.
How to Attend:
Attendance is free, but RSVPs are preferred. For more information or to RSVP, contact Seeds of Literacy at outreach@seedsofliteracy.org or complete the RSVP on the event page.
