Tutor Honored with ServeOhio Award for 23 Years of Volunteer Tutoring

“This award belongs to everyone,” tutor Dean Knauss told a busy class on March 11. “Without all of you, I wouldn’t be standing here now.”

Just three days earlier, Dean received the ServeOhio Award from the Ohio Commission on Service and Volunteerism at a ceremony and luncheon in Columbus. This prestigious award honors individuals, groups, and initiatives across Ohio that make a significant impact through service and volunteerism.

For more than 23 years, Dean has been a dedicated tutor, volunteering twice a week to support adult learners. Beyond GED preparation, he offers patience, a listening ear, and an open mind—always eager to learn alongside his students to better guide their success.

His passion for education and commitment to empowering others through literacy make him an irreplaceable part of the Seeds community, proving that a dedicated volunteer can transform lives, one lesson at a time.
