Friends of Seeds

At Seeds of Literacy, we are passionate experts in adult education. When your team of 3-10 people joins us for a day of service, we don’t just offer a volunteer opportunity — we provide a meaningful educational experience for your employees about who we are, what we do, and why adult education is vital to the health and future of our community.

By partnering with us, you amplify our voice by sharing our critical mission and introducing Seeds to a new network of potential tutors, advocates, brand ambassadors, and donors.

We currently offer 3 options, depending on the season. In addition to the activity, each option involves an educational component, stories from real tutors and students, photo opportunities, and a debrief.

KEYBANK

Led by longtime Seeds Board Member Brooke Emmel, volunteers from KeyBank arrived in red shirts and smiles for an afternoon of service.

After a presentation on the real-world effects of illiteracy, they heard from Tutor Ambassador Bill Higgins and Student Ambassador Lovevida Edwards.

Despite it being the hottest day in Cleveland since October, the group split into teams, equipped with knowledge, purpose, and promotional materials, to canvas local businesses.

“Word of mouth is our top referral source for both students and volunteer tutors,” said Bryce Cooney, Volunteer Coordinator at Seeds. “The KeyBank team played a key role in spreading our mission.”

One participant remarked, “I was surprised to learn about illiteracy in the areas where I live and work.”

PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE

Members of the Commercial Lines Field Marketing group opted to Feed Their Minds by bringing lunch for students and tutors at Seeds West. Following a morning presentation about Seeds, they served sandwiches and then enjoyed eating in the classroom with everyone.

“I learned so much about the need in our area,” said attendee Claire. “I would love to stay involved and will certainly spread the message (about the need for tutors).”
